The Husband I Thought I Knew: Chapter 1

My Billionaire Husband’s Double Life

"It started with a lie so small, I almost missed it."

My Billionaire Husband’s Double Life

Emma walked into their tiny kitchen, the smell of freshly brewed coffee filling the air. Liam was hunched over the table, his cheap plaid shirt slightly wrinkled, a stark contrast to his usual polished demeanour. She loved this version of him—simple, grounded, and completely hers. But today, something was different. “What’s this?” she asked, holding up a receipt she’d found tucked into his jacket. It wasn’t from their local diner or the grocery store. Instead, it was for an exclusive dinner at a high-end restaurant downtown—a place way out of their budget.

Liam’s face tensed for just a second, then he smiled. “Oh, that. It’s from my boss. He needed me to run an errand for him. Company dinner and all that.” Emma nodded, but the explanation felt… off. Liam rarely spoke about his job, brushing it off as “boring office work.” Yet, the receipt—totalling more than their month’s rent—nagged at her. Later that night, while Liam was in the shower, Emma’s curiosity got the better of her.

She grabbed his phone. No password. Relief flooded her—until she opened his emails. There it was: an invitation to the same restaurant for a "business gala," addressed not to "Liam Cooper the accountant" but "Liam Klein, CEO." Her stomach dropped. CEO? Of what? She stared at the screen, her world unravelling.

When Liam came out of the shower, towel slung low on his hips, Emma’s mind was racing. Should she confront him now? But his easy smile made her hesitate. That night, she barely slept. The husband she thought she knew suddenly felt like a stranger.
