The Fireman’s Forbidden Kiss: Chapter 3
The Distance Between Us

"Mason says it can’t happen. He’s older. He’s her father’s best friend. But Clara doesn’t care—and neither does his kiss."
The Distance Between Us
“You shouldn’t be here,” Mason said, not looking up.
“I was cleared yesterday.” Clara closed the door behind her.
The firehouse was quiet. Empty. Just the two of them and the echo of things they couldn’t say.
She stepped closer. He stepped back.
“Mason.”
He finally met her gaze. “You’re twenty-two. I’m forty-one. Your father—”
“He doesn’t even speak to you.”
He flinched.
She crossed the room. “Why did you come to the hospital?”
“I told you.”
“You stayed until I woke up. You brought me tea. You watched me sleep.”
His jaw clenched. “It doesn’t mean anything.”
“Then why can’t you look away now?”
She was close enough to see the war behind his eyes. Her breath caught.
He leaned in. Stopped. “If I kiss you, there’s no going back.”
“Then don’t stop,” she whispered.
He didn’t.
