"I don't need you to be a finished blueprint, Mira. I don't need you to be perfect. I just need you to be the woman who finally lets me in."
Demolishing My Walls, Brick by Aching Brick
The sun has broken through the clouds, spilling across the limestone walls like liquid gold. I am standing in the finished sanctuary. "The construction is finished, Mira." Silas is there.
"It’s perfect, Silas. But I can't stay. You deserve someone who matches your symmetry."
Silas takes a step toward me. "Do you know why I never liked skyscrapers, Mira? Because they’re a lie. They’re designed to sway so they don't snap. I’ve never been more miserable until I met a woman who showed me that the only thing worth building is something that knows how to survive a fall."
He drops to one knee. Silas Vane bows to no one, but here, he is in total surrender. "I don't need you to be perfect. I just need you to be the woman who finally lets me in. I’m demolishing the walls, Mira. Every brick I’ve put between me and the world... I’m tearing them down for you." He hands me a stone fragment with our names carved in it. "I’m hoping you’ll let the architect stay."
"Stay," I sob. He lifts me up. He kisses me, and it’s the sound of the foundation finally settling. The light doesn't just get in through the cracks. The light is the cracks. And in his arms, I am finally, beautifully, whole.
