My Quarterback Neighbour: Chapter 3
Whispers, Jealousy, and a Hidden Talent

"His ex wasn’t the only one spreading rumours, and I discovered his shocking talent."
Word spread fast about Ethan and me spending time together. By Friday, half the school thought we were dating. The other half thought I was using him for clout. His ex-girlfriend, Madison, made sure of that.
“You think you’re special, don’t you?” she sneered at me in the hallway. “Ethan’s just being nice. Don’t get your hopes up.”
I wanted to tell her she was wrong, but was she? Ethan wasn’t exactly open about our tutoring sessions, and I couldn’t shake the feeling he was hiding more.
One night, I found out just how much. Ethan’s window was open, and I heard music. Not the blaring party kind, but a soft, soulful melody. Curious, I climbed onto my desk and peeked through the gap in the curtains.
Ethan was playing the piano. Not just playing—he was incredible. His fingers moved effortlessly over the keys, his face completely relaxed. It was like he was a different person.
The next day, I couldn’t keep quiet. “Why didn’t you tell me you play?” I asked.
He froze. “You saw that?”
“Yeah. And you’re amazing.”
His shoulders sagged. “It’s just a hobby. My dad doesn’t think it’s worth my time.”
“Maybe it’s time to stop listening to him,” I said softly. For the first time, I saw hope flicker in his eyes.
