"I don't panic when lives are on the line, Clara. But the thought of losing you? That terrified me."
Code Red Confession (The Only Fire He Cant Fight)
My first day back on shift, the ER was eerily quiet. I was adjusting my scrubs, trying to shake the lingering stiffness in my leg, when the red emergency lights suddenly began to flash overhead. The klaxons wailed.
"Inbound trauma!" the charge nurse yelled down the hall. "Engine 42 responding!"
My stomach dropped. Engine 42. Hayes. I braced myself for the absolute worst—a devastating house fire, a catastrophic collision, a bloody gurney rushing through the double doors. I stood at the triage desk, my heart pounding violently in my throat.
The ambulance bay doors blasted open.
Hayes strode in. But there was no gurney. There were no paramedics behind him. He wasn't even covered in soot. He walked straight past the security desk, his eyes scanning the chaotic room until they locked onto mine. The entire ER went dead silent as he marched right up to my station.
"Where is the emergency?" I demanded, breathless and confused.
"Right here," he said, his deep voice carrying over the hum of the medical monitors. "I don't panic when lives are on the line, Clara. But the thought of losing you? That terrified me. Every time I walk through those doors, I'm looking for you."
I stared at him, my professional facade entirely crumbling. "Hayes..."
"Liam," he corrected softly, reaching across the counter to cup my cheek. "I face fires every day, Clara, but nothing burns me up like the thought of not being yours."
He kissed me right there, in the middle of triage, beneath the blaring alarms. And for the first time in my life, I completely lost my cool—and I didn't care at all.
A confession right in the middle of the ER! 🚨 We are officially flatlining over Hayes laying it all out there! 😭 Did this grand gesture make you swoon as much as it did us? Hit ❤️ to celebrate Clara and Hayes finally finding their spark, and share this epic finale with a friend! 👇
